» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Alex J. Murphy
Canon & MEDIUM: ROBOCOP 1 and the flashback memories of Murphy before he died shown in ROBOCOP 2 (BUT NOTHING ELSE FROM THAT MOVIE EXISTS FOR MY MURPHY BECAUSE OH GOD WHY) - film
Canon PULL-POINT: Taken from right before he dies in the first film - he will still be fully human when he arrives in the game
Character AGE: 35 - this was never been established in the original RoboCop, in either the movie or the script. The television mini-series, Robocop: Prime Directives, gives Murphy's age as 37 when he was murdered. The series, though, is an admitted alternate universe from the 1987 movie and thus cannot be relied on for information. HOWEVER - the novelization of the movie does give Murphy an age - 35 - and that is what I am going with.
Character ABILITIES: Murphy is a veteran police officer. He has shown himself to be a skilled marksman, is physically fit, and able to negotiate rather well (when he wants). As a result of his abilities as a police officer, Murphy was awarded several commendations for qualities including bravery and good conduct.
Character HISTORY: [Little Note: I'm going to talk about what Murphy will know when he arrives in the game. He won't know he becomes RoboCop as he has not died yet in his canon. For the rest, I will refer you to a link. I hope that's okay. Let me know if it isn't.]
Alexander James Murphy was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. From all appearances he had a normal enough childhood, raised in an Irish-Catholic family - his father, Russell Murphy, was also a police officer. He possessed a strong sense of right and wrong from an early age and a desire to help others which led him go into law enforcement like his father. He spent most of his career in the relatively safe and peaceful Metro South Precinct. During his time at Metro South, Murphy got married to his lovely wife, Ellen, and together they had a son, James.
Murphy was doing well at Metro South so when his transfer came in to Metro West he was more than a little confused. By this point, Omni Consumer Products owned the police force in Detroit and was 'restructuring' - their word for shuffling around officers on a whim. Still, Murphy took his change of location in stride with his trademark cheerful attitude.
Metro West, however, was a far cry from Metro South. Located deep in 'Old Detroit', the area was in complete chaos - a frightening vision of a possibly real, dystopian future. Criminals had more or less taken over area, with cop killer, Clarence Boddicker, as its unofficial leader. The precinct was understaffed and overworked and officer fatalities were an all too routine part of the day. As a result, most officers tried their best not to be assigned to Metro West. But Murphy wouldn't give up so easily and, as a dedicated cop, he wouldn't turn his back on a community in need.
Assigned to work with Officer Anne Lewis, the two seemed to be a good team upon their first meeting. Both shared a tough, no-nonsense attitude and a dedication to their work. When a call came in on their first day together about a robbery in their district neither officer hesitated to respond. They quickly realized that their foe was none other than Clarence Boddicker and his gang but still followed them into an abandoned steel mill by themselves as back-up was unavailable.
With no other choice the two officers split up and searched for the criminals. It was then that Murphy stumbled upon a portion of the gang, including Boddicker. Unwilling to give up, Murphy attempted to apprehend the men but was quickly overpowered. When he refused to tell Boddicker if he had a partner with him, the crime boss decided to go about murdering Murphy in sadistic fashion - shooting him over and over and allowing his gang to join in the fun. None of the shots were lethal so Murphy remained alive through the torture. Finally, tiring of his new toy, Boddicker leveled the fatal shot - a bullet to Murphy's head.
[The rest can be reviewed over here - Alex Murphy on the RoboCop Wiki]
Character PERSONALITY: Murphy is an old-fashioned guy. He believes in family, friends, loyalty, honor, and honesty above all else. Mild-mannered and generally a cheerful fellow, Murph is the last person you would ever think would become the cyborg, RoboCop. Under the years of miserable police work and slightly cynical attitude, Murphy believes in the law and the ability of the law to bring order to chaos. He knows it's naive but he can't help it - he believes in the work he does as a cop and that, somehow, he can make a difference.
Murphy is a family man. He loves his wife and his son and would do anything for either of them - even teaching himself how to quick drawn his gun like his son's TV hero, T.J. Lazer. His final memories before he dies are of them and when RoboCop fully realizes that he was/is Alex Murphy their memories are the first triggered. Despite his own personal sorrow over the decision, Murphy, as RoboCop, makes the decision not to seek out his wife and son after he remembers them because he does not want to hurt them further. He believes it is for the best that he remains dead and that his family remembers him as a human and not a machine.
Murph is the first one to make fun of himself or make a smart remark. His easy-going nature puts his partner, Lewis, at ease when they are first assigned to work together as he shows himself to be a bit of a softy and a goof - admitting he taught himself to quick draw not only for his son's enjoyment but also because he got a kick out of it. However, he is also the first to defend another. His brutal death at the hands of Boddicker for refusing to put his partner, Lewis, in danger is evidence of his loyalty and courage. Murph is a protector - serving the public trust, protecting the innocent, and upholding the law aren't just lines on paper for him. They are his very reason for being.
Finally, as touched on earlier, Murphy is a bit of an idealist in spite of his hardened cop exterior. He tries not to shoot first and ask questions later - he tries to bring criminals in peacefully before resorting to violence. Even as RoboCop, Murph still exhibits this behavior occasionally thus showing how ingrained it is in him. Murphy wants peace and justice for all but, at the end of the day, if the circumstances call for it he can fight with the best of them to protect those who cannot protect themselves. He is prepared to lead the charge into battle or follow someone else's lead - such as Lewis. Courageous to a fault, he will, without hesitation, give his life for another as he did when he, with Lewis, selflessly charged into the abandoned steel mill with Lewis to pursue Boddicker and his gang. The action is not reckless or full-hearty but one of duty and compassion - he knows that if Lewis and he do not try to stop Boddicker more people, including cops, will die. He is a rare breed of man - a proficient fighter with a (mostly) pure and noble heart, always willing to put the lives of others above his own.

Chosen WEAPON: Murphy will be bringing with him his weapon of choice from his canon - his 9mm service automatic pistol. He is adept at wielding two pistols as shown in the film so at some point he may end up picking up a second gun but he only has one of his own in canon (he borrows his partner's gun when he is show double-wielding) so that is all he will bring at first. However, the only one which will become sentient is the one he arrives with - the one he was issued as an officer with the Detroit Police Department.
As he progresses in the game, his aim will become better - his shots more likely to inflict mortal wounds as a result. His bond with the pistol will be especially strong, emotionally, as it is something from his past and, as such, a connection to the life he was forced to leave behind. The longer Murphy is in game his gun will better be able to sense when his life is in peril and this will be what heightens his skill with it comes to proper aim.
Character INVENTORY: Murphy will arrive in Exsilium wearing the Detroit Police Department uniform and body armor and helmet he was wearing just prior to his death. In his pocket will be a wallet with what money he had on his person at the time he was taken along with pictures of his family and his badge identifying him as Officer Alex J. Murphy. Finally, he will have, of course, his 9mm service automatic pistol with a few space clips of ammunition.

First PERSON:
[voice - it is obvious from the mumbled swearing and sound of random buttons being pushed that the user of the communication device has no clue what he is doing.]
Can anyone hear me? God, I feel stupid. Is anyone out there? Com'on, there has to be someone. I'm not much of a fan of talking to myself and I could use a little help here with the basics like - where the hell am I and how the hell do I get back to Detroit. Trivial things like that kinda mean a lot to me. Ya know - feel free to chime in whenever. I'm here all - well, until I figure out how to leave.
[END TRANSMISSION]
Third PERSON:
Things have changed so much.
Over and over, Alex Murphy kept turning over a piece of paper in his hand while words echoed in his head. Behind him, Ellen slept, blessedly oblivious to her husband's inner thoughts. In front of him, Murphy could look out into front yard of the beautiful house he called 'home'. This was his sanctuary, worlds away from the turmoil of the city he had sworn to protect.
Murphy had been born and raised in what was now called 'Old Detroit'. He had seen it gleaming and full of hope as a child - and he had watched as it crumbled and died an agonizing death as an adult. When he was old enough, he fled to a safer section of the city for Old Detroit was no place to raise a family. Still, he had been pulled back - back to the place where his father had first taught him about true courage and true loyalty. Back to Old Detroit to take up his father's torch as a police officer. To serve and protect - both of which the city needed, badly.
Years on the streets, working to help the people that resided within the communities around Metro South had bolstered his hopes for humanity. Murphy felt he had made a difference there and he genuinely cared about the people he had spent years serving. It hadn't hurt that the assignment was a relatively safe one when compared to other precincts. And that was the true test of a cop - it was easy to be selfless and brave when you weren't in any real danger. A real cop stood up for his beliefs and morals no matter what - even under the most dangerous conditions. Cops didn't run away from danger. Cops had to run into the belly of the beast without regard to their own personal safety. Only then could an officer's worth truly be gauged.
And now, Murphy faced that test himself. He looked down at the paper in his hand again. It was a notice - a notice to him that he was being transferred to Metro West. Metro West was notorious among all Detroit police officers. Officer fatalities were an almost daily occurrence there and most regarded an assignment there to be on the same level as a death sentence.
When Murphy had received the letter that morning his initial reaction was to wonder what he had done wrong to deserve the move. He was scared and didn't know which way to turn. He didn't want to face the horrors that awaited him at Metro West. He had a wife and son he needed to come home to each night.
But then a sense of honor and duty welled up inside him. He heard his father's voice chiding him for being a fair-weather cop. His job - his calling in life - was to serve and protect and that sort of thing did not discriminate based on location or danger. He was a cop, not a plumber. This was his job. His duty was to follow orders and know his place and do what was best for the community. Besides, he was returning to the place he grew up and it needed him. On some level he could feel the neighborhoods there needed him.
And that was how he had come to accept his fate that day but as the night drifted into early morning, doubts were creeping into his mind. What would happen on his first day? Would his new partner really have his back? Would he return to his family that night as he had left them - safe and sound?
His gaze shifted to the sleeping woman that he loved more than his own life. Somewhere in the pit of his stomach an uneasy knot developed and whispers from the dark recesses of his mind spoke a truth he did not want to believe.
This will be the last night.
» ADDITIONAL NOTES
I willingly sat through ROBOCOP 2 and ROBOCOP: Prime Directives. I'm not including that because it means anything to you all but I just had to share it with someone. Seriously, they should give out medals for getting through watching that garbage.
